NET Résumé Score (NRS) is a daily ranking system designed to evaluate NCAA Tournament résumés. Every game is assigned a value based on the current NET ranking of the opponent, the location of the game, and the result. As teams rise and fall in the NET rankings throughout the season, résumé values are recalculated daily to reflect the current strength of every win and loss.
NRS is not a predictive rating and does not attempt to measure how good a team is. It is designed to answer a different question: Which teams have built the strongest NCAA Tournament résumés?
Every day, each team’s NET Résumé Score is recalculated to reflect the current value of every win and loss on its schedule. As opponents rise and fall in the NET rankings throughout the season, the value of those games changes as well.
The current quadrant system groups wins and losses into broad categories. While useful, it treats all Quad 1 wins and losses equally. A road win over the #1 team and a neutral-court win over the #50 team are both classified as Quad 1 victories, even though most fans would agree they are not equally impressive accomplishments.
NET Résumé Score preserves the importance of quadrants while recognizing the differences within them. Instead of treating every Quad 1 result the same, NRS assigns value based on the opponent’s current NET ranking and the location of the game, creating a more precise measure of a team’s tournament résumé.
